BLACK MAN’S JUSTICE

“I wrote the song at the suggestion of my wife, Norma Chaparro. I used the music from a song I wrote over 20 years ago called ‘Lone Star Justice’ and came up with new lyrics. ‘Lone Star Justice’ was a Kay Kay and the Rays song that got considerable airplay in Texas, particularly on Pacifica radio. There were many requests for it and, also a lot of complaints, resulting in articles about the song in the Houston Chronicle and Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

I contacted James Armstrong, since he had just produced another political song I wrote, ‘Rise Up Resist,’ recording it in Chicago. James took it from there. The vocalists on ‘Rise Up’ were Annika Chambers and Derrick Procell and we wanted them again. James then recruited some of the same crew he had used on ‘Rise Up’ to back Annika and Derrick for ‘Black Man’s Justice,’ along with LTD/Catfood Records’ guitarist Johnny McGhee. Annika recorded her vocals in Florida, and I added the bass at Sonic Ranch in Texas. James did the spoken intro and, besides producing, did additional recording plus mixed and mastered at his studio. Deb Antoine created the powerful video. The theme is one that everyone involved feels very strongly about. We hope the message is heard during these troubled times.” Bob Trenchard

RISE UP RESIST!

“I wrote the song because of what has been going on in our country since Trump took office. He is a dangerous tyrant who only cares about his own self-interest. We need to take action and speak out against his racism. We must stand up to the injustice he is creating and the damage he is doing to our country. Everyone must vote. The soul of America is at stake.” Bob Trenchard

A demo of the song was sent to James Armstrong, who took over from there as producer. In addition to himself, James hired top Chicago musicians to record it and selected two fine singers, Annika Chambers and Derrick Procell, to interpret the song with the emotion it needed.  He then hired Deborah Antoine to create the video that perfectly worked with the music to send the message.
